Special Competitions

The Vince Calo Trophy

The Vince Calo Trophy is for "B" Grade members and is awarded to the best photographic portrait of human being(s) as judged by the "A" grade members present on that competition night.

The competition is held each year as determined by the committee. Refer to the Programme for this year's date.

This is not a regular monthly competition and special rules apply.

The John Addison Trophy

The John Addison Trophy is an open competition and is awarded to the most outstanding Landscape or Seascape.

The Eric Robertson Trophy for Portraiture

The Eric Robertson Trophy is an open competition and is awarded to the best photographic portrait of human being(s)

Definition:

A portrait of a human person or persons, defined as follows:

• A likeness of a person, especially one showing the face
• may include more than one person, but preferably not more than two
• may show all or part of the person ie may range from tightly cropped face to full length figure
• may include settings and objects pertinent to the nature of the subject, eg home, work, leisure etc., but such settings or objects must be subordinate to the subject
• subject should not be engaged in any activity to the total exclusion of the viewer
• following examples would not be acceptable as portraits;
  • A figure study, where the portrayal of the figure is the dominant theme of the photograph
  • A photograph where the subject is actively engaged in any activity to the total exclusion of the viewer eg a football player taking a mark
  • A landscape where a figure is included but the landscape is dominant.

Entrants are urged to use common sense in assessing whether or not an image conforms to this definition. If in doubt, consult with the committee.

The Iris Millikan Trophy

The Iris Millikan Trophy is an open competition and is awarded to the best Digitally Projected Image of a Creative or Experimental nature.

Rules for this EDI competition are as follows:

• A maximum of 3 images per entrant
• Maximum file dimensions: 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels high
• Maximum file size to be no more than 220kb
• Colour space for images should be: sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1
• An entry form is to accompany all EDI entries
• Competition entries are to be e-mailed to: accdigitalcomp@gmail.com
• Close off for all entries is the Sunday (12 midnight) before the competition
• No entries will be accepted on the night of the competition
• Naming of files should follow the following convention:
  • No. of entry – 1, 2 or 3
  • Surname of entrant
  • Example – 1xxxxxxxx or 2bloggs or 3whatshisname
• Image titles should be short and as concise as possible

 

Defininition - Creative Altered Reality

Adelaide Camera Club have adapted the APS (Australian Photogrpahy Society) difinition for the Creative/Altered Reality section of the Australian Digital Photographic Awards as the basis for this competition. You can find the full definition for this section here

"Creative" or "altered reality" covers photographs that display a novel effect because of an unusual combination of objects and/or viewpoint. They are images that have been modified during or after exposure. The image must have a photographic base with the original work being exposed by the entrant.

Special Competition Rules

1. Unless stated otherwise, the special competitions are open to all financial members, regardless of competitive Grade.
2. Format, size and presentation will conform to general Club competition rules.
3. Although monochrome and colour prints and slides may be entered, there are no separate sections.
4. Each entrant may submit a maximum of nine (9) images.:

   *Three colour prints, and
   * Three monochrome prints, and
   * Three Projectec Images (slides or EDI)

5. Photographs previously entered at any Club competition may be entered in a special competition, subject to rule 7.
6. Photographs which have previously won a special competition trophy may not be re-submitted to the same competition.
7. Photographs substantially similar to a previous winning entry may not be submitted to the same competition by the same author.
